This assignment was done for the Boston Globe Magazine a few weeks ago. In the article a doctor explains (her) methods to communicating with patients or the families of patients, by witholding a part of the truth which might cause them unnecessary concern. The doctor argues that sometimes there is no need to mention a possible outcome till there is absolute certainty of the condition.

The AD picked one of the conceptual sketches I sent and I went ahead to color. After the illustration was finished the editors - realizing the writer was a female - decided that the doctor in the image should also be a woman. A few quick redraws and the operation was complete.
